Abraham Lincoln – $1.2K in 1844, Springfield, Illinois

Abraham Lincoln served as the country’s 16th President for four faithful years until he was devastatingly assassinated in 1865. He guided the United States through the civil wars and eventually abolished slavery while simultaneously saving the Union.

Many consider him as one of America’s best presidents, and we can see why. The man was an inspiration then, and throughout the years, people continue to be inspired with his wise words.

The house pictured above was actually built in the 1840s and served as the home to Lincoln and his family for 17 years. Supposedly, in 1856, Lincoln and his wife decided to expand the home and turn it into a two-story house to make room for their growing family!
