WILLIAM MCKINLEY – PRICE UNDETERMINED, STANLEY STEAMER

William McKinley served as the 25th president of the USA and served from 1897 to 1901. During his time, he led the nation to win the Spanish-American War. He increased the cost of imported goods by proposing protective tariffs and set the nation’s standard to gold.

Unfortunately, he was assassinated in 1901 and that ended his term before his due time. He was born into an Irish-origin family who were big names in the day with regard to the iron-making business. However, William studied to become a lawyer instead of focusing on the family business. McKinley loved to meet the public, and during one such meeting when he was on stage giving a speech, he was shot in the abdomen twice.

Though he didn’t die on the spot, the injuries worsened his condition over time, leading eventually to his death. During his presidency, he is known to be the first president to ride a car! His steam-powered coach Stanley Steamer made a deep impact on him and he had a fleet of those cars for the White House.
