JAMES MADISON – $5 MILLION, MONTPELIER

Serving the country at a time when it was still in its infancy can be quite the task. James Madison became the country’s head in 1809 and served till 1817. He was the fourth president and is often called the Father of the Constitution.

He took a very important role in drafting and promoting the American constitution and the Bill Of Rights. Born and brought up in a plantation family in Virginia, James Madison spent his life in a 12,000-square-foot house in Montpelier where he lived with his wife.

With a total of 22 rooms, this grand Montpelier house went through some remodeling with a Tuscan portico addition, and it was made into a duplex. The simplicity as well as grandeur of this mansion is testimony that Madison made a great investment in this property.
