El Presa Canario es un perro pacífico que sería un excelente perro de seguridad debido a su idoneidad para el trabajo. Mantienen la apariencia de atención, pero se evapora rápidamente cuando están en presencia de alguien que realmente les importa. Los canarios aprecian estar activos, pero también disfrutan holgazaneando y permitiéndose ser un poco perezosos. Son una raza de perros conocida por ser muy confiable y no tiene problemas para hacer una vida por su cuenta. Aunque son devotos de sus familias, los perros de esta raza son bastante aprensivos con los extraños, especialmente si están presentes en la casa del dueño. No debería sorprender que cuando esta raza está en guardia, se transforma en un perro guardián confiable.
