Grażyna Szapołowska przez długie lata unikała publicznych rozmów o swoim pierwszym małżeństwie, podobnie jak Marek Lewandowski, który tłumaczył, że zachowanie prywatności ich relacji było zgodne z prośbą jego byłej żony. Dopiero w 2013 roku, w swoich wspomnieniach, Szapołowska postanowiła opowiedzieć o swoim związku z aktorem. W 1975 roku, będąc jeszcze młodą kobietą, Szapołowska poślubiła Marka, który był od niej starszy o dziewięć lat. Mimo różnicy wieku, po zaledwie 11 miesiącach małżeństwa podjęli decyzję o spędzeniu lata osobno, co stało się zapowiedzią ich rozwodu.
