Huub Stapel, beroemd geworden door zijn rol als de iconische Johnny Flodder, waarin hij door de straten scheurde in een felroze Chevrolet Caprice Classic, heeft zich nooit echt losgemaakt van de autowereld. Als presentator van het programma ‘Stapel op auto’s’ maakte hij zijn liefde voor voertuigen overduidelijk. Toch kiest Huub privé niet voor flitsende sportwagens. Hij zweert bij de ingetogen klasse van de Volkswagen Phaeton, een luxewagen met een prijskaartje van €200.000. Stapel is zelfs zo’n fan van het model dat hij door de jaren heen al vier Phaetons heeft gehad. Hoewel hij enkele modellen voor een gereduceerde prijs kocht, blijft zijn voorkeur voor deze wagen een constante, een keuze die subtiele elegantie boven opvallende pracht en praal stelt.
