Lauren Sesselmann – Kanadas Abwehr-Ass mit amerikanischen Wurzeln
Lauren Sesselmann wurde in Green Bay, Wisconsin, geboren, entschied sich nach einer soliden College-Karriere an der Purdue University jedoch die kanadische Staatsbürgerschaft anzunehmen, um für die Nationalmannschaft von Kanada zu spielen. Diese Entscheidung ermöglichte ihr eine beachtliche Karriere für dieses Land, auch wenn sie seit einiger Zeit in Kalifornien spielt. Mit Team Kanada gewann Lauren die Bronzemedaille bei den Olympischen Spielen 2012 und nahm an der Frauen-Weltmeisterschaft 2015 teil.
2017 ehrte der kanadische Fußballverband ihre Verdienste, und seither ist sie eine feste Größe im kanadischen Frauenfußball. Ihre Leistungen auf dem Platz, aber auch ihre ganz besondere Ausstrahlung machten sie zu einer geschätzten Sportlerin und einem Vorbild für viele Nachwuchstalente.
