Infelizmente, um acidente nos anos oitenta, quase o tirou de cena. Gary sofreu um acidente de moto horrível e fraturou o crânio e tudo isso aconteceu devido uma overdose de cocaína. Quando a história completa foi divulgada na mídia, ele fazia parte do Celebrity rehab e foi um verdadeiro escândalo na época.
