These Eye-popping Vintage Bridesmaids Dresses Will Make You Grateful for Modern Fashion

Christmassy, but With the Wrong Colors

Fashion has come a long way since the ’60s, which is when we imagine this photo dates from—forgive us, fashion historians. And we’re thankful for it because no one in today’s world would ever want to wear a velvet dress resembling Santa’s off-duty robe as part of a bridal train.

The English believe finding a spider in a wedding dress means good luck. But this time, it seems the spiders would be hiding in the white fur hats these women have on. The entire affair seems less like a marriage ceremony and more like a Christmas production if the official color somehow changed from red to purple.

Bridal Train Goes on Pilgrimage

It’s difficult for historians to pinpoint the exact origins of the pilgrimage. Apparently, visiting sites believed to hold spiritual significance is a custom that predates antiquity. But one doesn’t need to know much about the practice’s origins to imagine what people might wear on such trips.

And this here is a picture that could be taken right out of a “Pilgrimage Fashion Magazine” if there was ever such a thing. The long capes and high necklines of these dresses would be a bore to look at if the bride didn’t come up with the genius idea to deck her train in these pretty colors.

You Can Never Go Wrong With Floral

Florals are one print that could never go out of style. From the 11th century, when Asians had the patterns sewn into silk and ikat cloth, to the ’60s, when flower power became synonymous with social justice and liberation, floral prints have always been a big part of fashion.

But sometimes, people can take it too far. Here is an example of why some things one best uses in moderation. Not only does the heavy print overshadow the bridesmaids and little girl, but it also takes our attention away from the woman who’s meant to be the star of the day.
