A famous line used by Tom Hanks in the film was inspired by sixteen-year-old Louis Michael Figueroa who ran all the way from New Jersey (where he lived) to San Francisco in 1982. He did this in order to support the American Cancer Society and spread awareness about cancer treatment. to quote the famous line: “I just put one foot in front of the other. When I get tired, I sleep. When I get hungry, I eat. When I have to go to the bathroom, I go.”
