USS Midway
The USS Midway was launched on March 20, 1945, and commissioned just a week after WWII ended. For a decade, it held the title of the largest ship in the world—so massive that it couldn’t even fit through the Panama Canal at the time. The Midway served an impressive 47 years before being decommissioned on April 11, 1992.
Today, it’s docked in San Diego, California, as a museum ship, inviting visitors to explore its vast decks and relive its storied history. From its post-war beginnings to its long service, the USS Midway is a must-see for anyone fascinated by naval engineering and military history.
