This pup must have been an emotional support pet, but it is not considered a service animal according to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This agency states that around 500,000 service dogs help people with disabilities in the United States.

Unlike service animals, emotional support pets do not have the same rights to accompany their human handlers. They are generally used as companions to provide comfort and relieve loneliness as part of a treatment plan or therapy. Unfortunately, Walmart only allows service animals on their premises, but we hope that the owner got things sorted out before they started shopping.
