Quentin Tarantino, the celebrated filmmaker, once hailed actress Pam Grier as cinema’s first female action star, attributing her versatility to her roles in women-in-prison, action, and blaxploitation films. Grier’s star began to rise in the 1970s, with notable appearances in movies like “Women in Cages,” “Just Wright,” and “Friday Foster.”
However, it was her iconic roles in “Foxy Brown” and “Coffy,” the latter released in 1973, that solidified her status. In “Coffy,” she portrayed the vengeful nurse Flower Child “Coffy” Coffin. In this striking image, the “Black Mama, White Mama” actress dons elegant white swimwear, basking in the serenity of a resort, perhaps contemplating her next powerful performance.
