Tout comme TLC, Tom Petty et ses camarades de groupe ont été lésés par leur première entente contractuelle. Cependant, contrairement aux filles, Tom Petty a décidé de se rebeller contre leurs faibles revenus en produisant le 3ème album solo du groupe avec un prêt de 500 000 $. Après avoir déclaré faillite et annulé leur contrat, ils ont été signés par Backstreet Records, et ils ont tous récolté les dividendes de leur travail en temps voulu. Ils ont fini par gagner beaucoup plus qu’ils ne l’auraient fait autrement, et c’est l’une des rares histoires où les stars qui s’endettent finissent par s’endetter davantage qu’avant. Tom Petty et ses amis sont très débrouillards Certainement un travail intelligent.
