“The Land of Fire and Ice:” Exploring the Wonders of Iceland

National Beer Day – Bjordagur

Iceland and the United States may be on different sides of the world, but they share a similar history when it comes to failed alcohol prohibition. The US’s ban on alcohol lasted from 1920 to 1933, while Iceland’s ban stretched all the way from 1908 to 1989. Icelandic turned their end of the ban into a national holiday instead of just having a few beers.

Every year on March 1st, Icelanders celebrate Beer Day, which they call Bjordagur. This special day is a reminder of the country’s love of beer, and it’s now celebrated throughout the nation with award-winning brews and an ever-growing beer culture.
