Roberto è legato sentimentalmente alla moglie Nicoletta Braschi da oltre 40 anni e il loro amore è davvero inossidabile. I due si sono conosciuti nel 1983, tra libri, teatro e cinema. L’attore ha sempre manifestato grande rispetto e dedizione assoluta a Nicoletta, che compare spessissimo accanto a lui nei suoi film. L’artista infatti ha dichiarato che Nicoletta è il grande amore della sua vita e la sua Musa Ispiratrice: tutto ciò che ha costruito nella sua carriera lo deve a lei, che lo ha sempre sostenuto, incoraggiato, spronato.
