El ópalo es una piedra preciosa que en inglés se dice Opal. Es una piedra natural, que nace de la tierra y que tiene valor pues se usa como joya. Si bien en inglés se usa como nombre para las niñas, en español este nombre no existe ni como Ópalo ni como Opal. Tiene origen griego como nombre de varón, Apolo, que es el nombre de un dios griego. Sale de la unión de las palabras “apo” y “ollymi” que significan “Lejos y Muerte” en masculino. Al pasar al femenino, pierde la connotación de ollymi así que significa “Lejos”. También significa “El que da vida y ahuyenta el mal”.
