Sugar Ray Leonard is one of the greatest boxers of all time. He had an active boxing career from 1977 to 1997 which earned him numerous winning titles. Some of his prestigious titles include world titles in five weight divisions, the lineal championship in three weight divisions, and the welterweight title’s undisputed king.
Sugar was part of an exclusive clique of boxers, like The Fabulous Four, who fought each other throughout the 1980s. The group consisted of other famous boxers like Roberto Durán, Thomas Hearns, and Marvin Hagler. Sugar Ray’s hefty resume consisted of a feat of 36-3-1, and he also was the first boxer to win $100 million in purses.
Some of his marquee fights were in the headlines, especially the split bouts with Duran – a famous rematch that made history. There were also mentionable victories over Hearns and Hagler. Sugar Ray retired in 1997 but he continues to steal the spotlight as an actor and a TV analyst. With his continuous engagement in work, no wonder his net worth, as of today, stands at $120 million.
