I’d gone from living in an abusive household, losing my job, and barely holding it together to finding refuge with a friend and starting fresh at a new workplace. Things were starting to look up, but a lingering guilt kept creeping in. No matter how kind she was, I couldn’t impose on my friend forever.

The next day, the weight of reality hit me. I had to start looking for more permanent housing options. I couldn’t keep relying on her. She had opened her door to me but deserved her space back soon. I had to figure out how to stand on my own again.
