I knew my husband would want me to keep moving forward, no matter how hard things got. With what little money I had left, I found a nearby motel, the kind you could tell had seen better days, but it was shelter, and that was enough for now.

All night, I thought about my late husband. His memory was all I had left, but it was the one thing keeping me grounded. As I lay there, the room began to spin. The nausea returned, stronger this time, as if my body couldn’t keep up with the weight of it all. And for a moment, I thought I might break.
