Jan Slagter is het vertrouwde gezicht achter omroep MAX en heeft zich ontwikkeld tot een van de drijvende krachten achter de populaire zender. Zijn tomeloze inzet voor zijn werk neemt minstens 70 uur per week in beslag, wat de tijd thuis beperkt. Slagter geeft openlijk toe dat hij nergens liever is dan bij zijn gezin, maar de drukke agenda maakt dat niet altijd mogelijk. Toch maakt hij elke ochtend tijd om zijn jongste zoon naar school te brengen, een traditie die hij koestert. Jan en zijn vrouw Ingrid wonen in het pittoreske Zoetermeer, waar ze samen met hun twee zonen en hun trouwe honden genieten van de momenten die ze als gezin kunnen doorbrengen.
