DIE AUSWIRKUNGEN DER NUKLEAREXPLOSION IN BELARUS
Obwohl sowohl das Kernkraftwerk Tschernobyl als auch Prypjat in der Ukraine liegen, war das Land nicht am stärksten betroffen. Tatsächlich war es Weißrussland bzw. das heutige Belarus, das nach der Explosion am stärksten kontaminiert wurde und eine landesweite Verschlechterung des Gesundheitszustands seiner Bevölkerung erlebte. Da die Stadt Prypjat in der Nähe der Grenze zwischen der Ukraine und Belarus liegt, gelangte der radioaktive Rauch bis ins Nachbarland, anstatt sich in der übrigen Ukraine auszubreiten. Schätzungen zufolge wurden etwa drei Viertel des radioaktiven Materials auf belarussischen Feldern abgelagert, und dies könnte auch der Grund dafür sein, dass Schweden das erste Land war, das sich mit den radioaktiven Auswirkungen befasst hat.
