La prima cosa che gli Hills fecero fu che una donazione di cinquantamila dollari alla sua città natale, Camden Point, e anche al Missouri. Voleva fare una donazione per un impianto di trattamento delle acque reflue.
Sembrava una richiesta particolarmente strana, ma gli abitanti di Camden Point furono grati per il beneficio offerto loro da Mark e dalla sua famiglia. Fino a quel momento, Camden Point aveva dovuto ricorrere a fosse settiche individuali per le acque reflue, perché la città non disponeva di fondi adeguati. Con il contributo di Mark, non avrebbero dovuto tenere le fosse settiche sulla loro proprietà e le acque reflue sarebbero state fuori dalla strada e dalla vista.
