A Curious Delay
Melissa had never thought to ask her ex where he’d gotten the ring—it seemed like a strange question to ask about a gift. But Mr. Harris had an unexpected look of concern as he said, “Actually, I’d like to consult a colleague about this ring before making an offer. They’re on their way here and should be here soon. Can I get you some coffee or tea while you wait?”
Surprised, Melissa nodded, “Uh, sure! That sounds great.” She figured it wasn’t unusual for jewelers to double-check valuable items. And if Mr. Harris felt the ring was worth a second opinion, maybe it was more valuable than she’d imagined!
