Sidney Poitier – 1927
One of the most noted Bahamian-American actors, Sidney Poitier made a name for himself quite fast and became a popular international figure. His most significant movies include Lillies Of The Field (which earned him both an Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Actor, making him the first Bahamian and black actor to have won such prestigious awards), Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner?, To Sir, With Love, and In the Heat of the Night. After his retirement, he went on to directing and even released his own album. He also acted as a diplomat and received awards and accolades galore.
