Meet the Genie in the Lamp
The tale of genies existed long before “The Arabian Nights: Tales from a Thousand and One Nights” was compiled or the animated musical film “Aladdin” was released in 1992. However, the book and the movie emphasize that genies are of Arabian origin.
Arabian mythology speaks of jinni or genies, spirits who inhabit the earth unseen by humans by possessing extraordinary powers. In “Aladdin,” the genie in the lamp only had three wishes to offer and was adamant that it couldn’t allow more. But this genie may be more generous.
