Iceland’s Revolutionary Work-Life Balance
Iceland is an amazing country renowned for its natural beauty and unique culture, but it is also a leader in progressive work-life balance initiatives. From 2015 to 2019, Iceland conducted the world’s largest trial of a four-day workweek. Remarkably, the results were positive, with workers feeling happier and healthier, as well as more productive.
This trial ran in many different settings, such as hospitals, preschools, offices, and social services, and it encouraged 86 percent of employees to work shorter weeks or to have the option to request it. Even during the long and dark winters, many Icelanders take on multiple jobs to stay busy and ward off the seasonal blues.
