Senegal has an exciting World Cup history, despite only reaching the finals three times; 2002, 2018, and 2022. In 2002, they defeated the favored France team and pulled off one of the biggest upsets in history to get all the way to the quarterfinals.
At the 2018 World Cup in Russia, despite their team’s lackluster performance, its passionate supporters more than made up for it with raucous chants and, like Japanese supporters, a dedication to maintaining the stadium’s cleanliness. The team is now the highest-ranked African in the tournament after moving up five spots in the FIFA rankings from 23rd to 18th.
