Aunque todos sus matrimonios anteriores fracasaron, Billy ya está planeando retirarse con su cuarta esposa, Alexis Roderick, la cual tiene la mitad de su edad. Él se casó con la modelo Christie Brinkley en 1985 y se divorciaron nueve años después. Su hija, Alexa Ray Joel, también es música y ha heredado el encanto de su padre.
