Siendo alguien que siempre estuvo bajo el escrutinio público, Richie se aseguró de mantener un peso satisfactorio, pero hubo un momento en que sintió la necesidad de ser más flaca. Se rumorea que ella intentó una dieta de semillas de girasol que resultó en una drástica pérdida de peso, su peso total bajó hasta sólo 88 libras. Mucho especulan que ella estaba sufriendo de desórdenes alimenticios, pero la actriz negó esto.
