Two-time Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey has opened up about his ongoing struggles, revealing that he currently has no permanent home and lives between hotels and Airbnbs. The actor, known for acclaimed performances in “American Beauty” and “L.A. Confidential”, shared that his life has shifted dramatically since the fallout from the allegations that surfaced in 2017.
In a recent interview with The Telegraph, Spacey described his current situation as “not great,” noting that he goes wherever work takes him. “I’m living in hotels, I’m living in Airbnbs, I’m going where the work is,” he said. “I literally have no home, that’s what I’m trying to explain.”
Financial Setbacks and Career Struggles
The “House of Cards” star admitted that the last several years have been financially devastating. With most of his Hollywood projects halted, he mentioned that his income had nearly disappeared while expenses continued to rise.
“The costs over these last seven years have been astronomical,” he explained. “I’ve had very little coming in and everything going out.”

Spacey compared his current career challenges to the blacklisting era of classic Hollywood. Drawing parallels to the McCarthy-era struggles faced by artists, he mentioned how Kirk Douglas once supported blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, an act that changed the tide for many.
He expressed hope that modern filmmakers might do the same for him. “If Martin Scorsese or Quentin Tarantino called my manager tomorrow, it would change everything,” Spacey shared. “I’d be honored when that level of talent picks up the phone. I believe it’s going to happen.”
A Comeback in Progress
Despite his financial and professional challenges, Spacey continues to work. He recently completed filming in the U.K. on a new science fiction thriller titled “The Tenth Planet.” The film marks one of his first major projects since stepping back from Hollywood. His appearance at major film festivals such as Venice and Cannes earlier this year also signaled his determination to rebuild his image.
Spacey has been open about seeking redemption, emphasizing that while some of his behavior in the past may have been inappropriate, he maintains that he did nothing illegal.
Over the years, he has faced numerous allegations but was acquitted of sexual assault charges in the U.K. and found not liable in a U.S. civil lawsuit filed by actor Anthony Rapp.
Support and New Challenges

While many in the industry have distanced themselves from him, several well-known figures such as Brian Cox, Liam Neeson, and Sharon Stone have voiced support for Spacey’s return to acting. Their public backing, according to Spacey, gives him confidence that opportunities may eventually open up again.
However, he continues to face legal hurdles. A new civil case has been filed against him in the U.K., following the release of a 2024 documentary that brought forward additional allegations. Despite these challenges, Spacey remains focused on moving forward and rebuilding his life and career.
For now, the actor performs as a lounge singer in Cyprus, taking small steps toward stability while staying active in his craft. Though his journey remains uncertain, Spacey appears determined to redefine his story. His resilience, paired with his belief that time and persistence can restore his reputation, highlights a man unwilling to fade away quietly.
