Dopo che la minaccia iniziale dello iodio radioattivo si è attenuata, la principale minaccia proveniva dal suolo. Cesio-137 e Stronzio-90 sono stati emessi dall’esplosione. Lo Stronzio-90 è noto per essere a base di calcio e tracce di esso si trovano nel latte ottenuto dalle aree colpite dopo l’esplosione. Il Cesio-137 ha una base di potassio ed è presente nei tessuti animali e nel sangue. Dopo che un certo numero di persone ha deciso di tornare alle proprie radici, hanno consumato latte e carne provenienti dalle zone circostanti e quindi si sono contaminati anche loro. Questi incidenti sono stati confermati e documentati anche dagli avvocati specializzati in casi di morte accidentale.
