Emanuele (Lino) Saputo – $6.04 billion CAN ($4.8 billion US)

Emanuele (Lino) Saputo is an Italian-Canadian billionaire businessman who was born in Montelepre, Sicily, Italy. But the family immigrated to Montreal, Quebec. Giuseppe Saputo founded the company Canadian cheese manufacturer Saputo, Inc. in 1954. He started the company with just $500 and a bicycle for deliveries. After the big boom of pizzas in the 1980s-1990s, Lino’s fortune started increasing by leaps and bounds. He acquired U.S. and Canadian dairies in the 80s which earned him the title of cheese king of Canada.

Emanuele Saputo became the president of the company in 1969. The company spread its wings and went public in 1997 (SAP: TSE). The company has also spread its interests in restaurants, golf clubs as well as the Saputo Stadium which hosts the Montreal soccer team.

Emanuele Saputo is currently worth $6.04 billion CAN ($4.8 billion US).
