Daryl Katz is a Canadian businessman who has earned a net worth as chairman and chief executive officer of The Katz Group, Canada’s leading drug store operator. He is also the owner of the nation’s only mail-order pharmacy business, Meditrust Pharmacy Inc., and the owner of the Edmonton Oilers.
Daryl happens to be the son of a pharmacist and earned his fortune by buying the Canadian rights to the U.S. franchise, the Medicine Shoppe in 1991. He started expanding this business into a conglomerate called the Katz Group Of Companies which invests in several divisions such as pharmacy, sports & entertainment, and real estate development.
Today, the Katz Group of Companies is said to be one of the largest privately-owned businesses in Canada. Daryl Katz’s net worth of approximately $5.67 billion CAN ($4.5 billion US) makes him one of the richest Canadians currently.
