LE SYSTÈME DE SÉCURITÉ NE FONCTIONNAIT PAS AU MOMENT DE L’INCIDENT
Un désastre tel que Tchernobyl ne se serait pas a priori produit si les autorités avaient pris la peine d’installer un système de sécurité pour les besoins de la centrale. Un dispositif d’urgence pour refroidir le cœur d’un réacteur en cas de surchauffe aurait plus spécialement été requis à ce titre.
L’enquête menée autour de cet incident a pourtant révélé que la centrale est bel et bien équipée d’un tel dispositif. Celui-ci a toutefois été désactivé au moment de l’incident alors que les ingénieurs réalisaient un test sur le réacteur, causant ainsi la surchauffe du cœur du réacteur et son explosion.
