LE PIED DE L’ÉLÉPHANT A ÉTÉ LA ZONE LA PLUS FATALE
Le pied d’éléphant est reconnu comme la zone la plus radioactive de Tchernobyl, et le fait qu’elle se trouve juste en bas du réacteur 4 n’en est pas la seule raison. La radioactivité élevée dans cette zone tient essentiellement à la grande quantité de déchets radioactifs qui n’ont jamais pu en être retirés.
Cette zone a été si radioactive à une époque qu’une personne peut y perdre la vie en y restant pour une minute. La radioactivité sur cette zone a beaucoup baissé avec le temps, mais elle reste très dangereuse et peut coûter la vie à une personne après une exposition continue d’environ 8 heures.
