JAMES MONROE – PRICE UNDETERMINED, OAK HILL

James Monroe, the fifth president of the United States, was best known for the Monroe Doctrine that prevented further colonization by European countries in the American states.

He also championed the cause of finding colonies in Africa for freed slaves. The country of Liberia was born because of this and the capital Monrovia was named after James Monroe himself.

His house in Oak Hill was a plantation and mansion, and he lived in it for 22 years. It is considered to be a historic landmark in Virginia now. By the looks of it, he preferred to live a simple lifestyle despite having held the highest position in the country!
