The abandoned school buildings happen to be a casualty from the Chernobyl disaster that took place almost 30 years ago. After the news of the mishap started reaching all corners of the globe, a number of charities joined hands and came forward to provide relief to the people who were reeling under the effects of the blast. Chernobyl Recovery and Development Programme was launched by the United Nations in 2003 and their main objective was to lend a helping hand to Ukraine in easing out the consequences of the accident in and around Chernobyl.
