The 36-Hour Evacuation Plan of Pripyat

With the blast taking place, the people residing in Pripyat knew that something was wrong. Soviet officials took almost 36 hours to actually admit and confirm that a fatal accident had taken place, and an evacuation was a must. In spite of that, they assured the Pripyat residents that they would be back within a few days and make all the arrangements, and finally, on April 28, officials started evacuating people within a 10-kilometer radius. However, as the days went by, the area of evacuation started growing. Such late action could have easily driven wrongful death attorneys to take some legal steps against the officials.
