Ivan Chose Not To Leave Home

With nowhere to go, a number of elderly people made their way back home inside the ‘Exclusion Zone’. Ivan Semenyuk, all of 80, stands a firm example of the same who returned to the village of Parushev, his hometown alongside his wife, Marya. Ivan never gave a thought to move into retirement homes somewhere safer where he would comfortably live his life. Instead, he still goes to the forest for mushrooms, grows veggies like potatoes, cucumber, tomatoes, pumpkins, beets, corn and even raises chickens. He is just one of a handful of surviving people among the 600 who once made up the town called Parushev.
