Martin Gaus, bekend van zijn iconische programma Dierenmanieren, begon zijn loopbaan niet met dieren, maar in de sportwereld, waar hij zijn talent als honkballer liet zien in het nationale team. Na een carrière in de staalhandel, volgde hij zijn passie voor dieren en richtte hij een hondenschool op, wat de weg vrijmaakte voor zijn televisiecarrière bij de TROS. Dierenmanieren bracht hem bekendheid, waarna hij succes vond met programma’s als Natte Neuzen. Hoewel hij tegenwoordig geniet van zijn pensioen en minder vaak op tv verschijnt, blijft zijn invloed onder dierenliefhebbers in Nederland voelbaar.
