Debido a su figura tonificada y comportamiento optimista, las criaturas a su cuidado siempre están preparadas para lo que sea que les depare el día. Estos son extremadamente inteligentes y se ubican en la parte superior de las listas por su nivel de energía; por lo tanto, solo pueden jugar en espacios abiertos. Appenzell Sennenhunds no solo son excelentes perros guardianes, sino que también son bastante buenos para rastrear animales perdidos y brindarles seguridad. Tienen un alto nivel de desconfianza hacia las personas que no conocen, por lo que será difícil que los engañes.
