From Battleship Classics to High-Tech Terrors, These Warships Bring the Heat!

USS Ticonderoga

The USS Ticonderoga, nicknamed “Tico,” was the first of the Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruisers. It also made history as the first combat vessel equipped with the AEGIS combat system. This tech allowed the ship to track and engage multiple aircraft targets simultaneously, making it a game-changer in naval warfare. Its motto, fittingly, was “The First AEGIS Cruiser.”

Even after it was decommissioned in 2004 and removed from the Naval Vessel Register, the Ticonderoga hasn’t vanished. It’s currently an inactive ship at the Naval Inactive Ship Maintenance Facility in Philadelphia, a quiet reminder of its once cutting-edge role in the U.S. Navy’s arsenal.
