USS Harpers Ferry
The USS Harpers Ferry is the leader of the Harpers Ferry-class dock landing ships. It is also named after the historic West Virginia town known for its Civil War significance. With its motto, “First in Freedom,” this warship isn’t just about power—it’s about purpose.
It’s armed with two 20mm Phalanx CIWS mounts, two 25mm Mk 38 rapid-fire cannons, two Rolling Airframe Missile launchers, and six .50 caliber machine guns, so it’s always ready for action. Combat prowess aside, the Harpers Ferry provided crucial humanitarian aid in Burma in 2008 and joined rescue missions in the Philippines a year later. It’s as much a lifesaver as it is a protector.
