USS Lewis B. Puller ESB-3

The USS Lewis B. Puller (ESB-3) is the Navy’s first Expeditionary Mobile Base, previously known as a Mobile Landing Platform and an Afloat Forward Staging Base. Launched on November 6, 2014, and commissioned in Bahrain on August 17, 2017, it took over from the USS Ponce as part of the U.S. Fifth Fleet in the Persian Gulf.

When it was commissioned, its prefix changed from USNS to USS, marking its new status. The Puller handles low-intensity missions that don’t require more expensive combat ships, keeping the heavy hitters available for critical operations. Its versatility makes this sea base a major player in the Navy’s lineup.
