USS Charleston

There have been six ships named after Charleston, South Carolina, and the USS Charleston (LCS-18) is the latest addition. This Independence-class littoral combat ship was launched on September 14, 2017, and commissioned on March 2, 2019.

The Charleston was designed for agility and displaces 3,104 metric tons when fully loaded while measuring 418 feet in length. It’s armed to the teeth with a BAE Systems Mk 110 57 mm gun, four .50 caliber guns, an Evolved SeaRAM 11-cell missile launcher, and mission modules. Onboard, it can deploy two MH-60R/S Seahawks and an MQ-8 Fire Scout. It’s a versatile and modern warship ready for any coastal mission.
