Maybe the Lioness was Biding Her Time
It’s safe to say that the lioness’s maternal instincts kicked in when she saw the antelope We can also assume that she already had prior experience with her own cubs, so taking care of a young one can’t be strange to her. The thoughts of feasting on the creature probably crossed her mind. It’s an in-built instinct that only a stronger one can suppress.
In this case, it’s her instinct to care for a young one that prevailed. Just like how the antelope couldn’t do anything about it if she had chosen to snack on him, it also couldn’t do anything about it when she decided to nurture him.
