Der Hauptplatz von Prypjat ist nach wie vor da, und dort sind die Folgen der Katastrophe am stärksten zu spüren. Damals befand sich hier das Hotel Polissya. Gegenwärtig ist der Platz mit dichtem Laub von Bäumen, Sträuchern und anderen ungeschnittenen Anpflanzungen übersät, die sich weigern, mit dem Wachstum aufzuhören, und niemand wagt es wirklich, so schnell wie möglich anderweitige Maßnahmen zu ergreifen. Es war ein Gebiet, in dem zu einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt die Blumen in voller Blüte standen. Prypjat war bekannt für seine Bevölkerung von fast 49.400 Menschen. Das Durchschnittsalter der Bevölkerung lag bei 26 Jahren, und die meisten von ihnen hatten ihr Hochschulstudium erfolgreich abgeschlossen.
