Dentistry’s Dark History
The fear of dentists didn’t just appear out of nowhere; it has roots in some truly unsettling history. Ancient dental procedures were a horror show by today’s standards—no anesthesia, no modern tools, just pain and a lot of patience. Imagine sitting in a chair with straps to keep you from moving while a dentist gets to work.
Restraints were common to “assist” with the lack of numbing agents, and it’s safe to say patients weren’t exactly relaxed. Knowing this, it’s no surprise the dental chair still triggers nerves today. The profession has come a long way, but some fears stick around.
