Il reattore quattro è stato coperto da un involucro protettivo o sarcofago che si è rivelato piuttosto efficace, ma tutti sapevano che questa soluzione non sarebbe durata per sempre. Hanno coperto il reattore e hanno costruito una grande struttura di cemento sopra di esso. Tuttavia, il rivestimento ha iniziato a deteriorarsi e si sono osservate crepe e perdite. Nel 2016, l’Ucraina ha iniziato a erigere un nuovo sarcofago intorno al reattore, ma gli ufficiali ritengono che l’intera procedura di pulizia non sarà completata prima del 2065. Gli attuali funzionari si ritireranno e nuovi funzionari prenderanno il loro posto, ma Chernobyl non vedrà un futuro più luminoso nel prossimo futuro.
